Vanguard Bard Guide : Songwriting Basics

A basic guide to Bard Songwriting in Vanguard SOH

Basic Bard Songwriting

Bards are a unique class of Light Fighter who have a special gift for composing songs that bring various beneficial effects to friends, while causing negative effects and even damage to  foes. By collecting and arranging basic song elements (melodies, embellishments, lyrics and rests), Bards compose unique songs that have varying effects. Different combinations of song elements produce different buffs/effects.

Over time Bards collect a number of unique song elements, which they use to compose into various unique songs. Songs may be played as they are needed, or written into their songbook and reused at the appropriate times.

Song Elements

All Bards have 4 major song elements at their disposal. These song elements are combined in various ways to produce unique songs. Each element has an 'Energy per second' cost - this is the amount of energy that will drain from your energy pool per second as the song plays.

Melodies (F1 in above images)
The backbone of each song, a melody is a required element and sets the general tone of the song.

Embellishments & Lyrics (F2 & F3 in above images)
This is where Bards begin to add unique elements to the base melody, producing uniquely powerful songs. There are a number of different ways to embellish a song, and these elements may be combined (depending on the number of available slots) to produce combined effects.

Rests (F4 in above images)
These elements are useful in reducing the overall energy cost of a song. Each rest has a negative 'energy per second' cost.

Composing a Song

To compose a song, Bards must open their Songbook, and click 'Compose' (See C4 in the images above). This will open up the Bard Song Composer panel (see D in the images above).

Naming your Song
The Composer panel allows you to assign a name to your song, as well as a small description (so other players know what benefits the song is producing).

Assigning Song Elements
Song elements can be added to the song compilation by opening the appropriate panel (see G in the above images) and dragging one of the available elements into the appropriate slots (see F1, F2, F3 in the images above)

Playing a Song

To play a song Bards must open the Bard Songbook, select the song they want to play, and click "Play". Songs may also be played at the click of a single button by placing the song in a macro.

Building a Bard 'Song Macro'

Writing a Bard song macro is extremely simple. Simply right-click any empty ability slot in your UI, name the macro, and type the following syntax into the macro field. Simply replace My Song Title with the titles of your songs.

/playsong "My Song Title"
